Make your own ornaments

Updated: Dec 17, 2018

Are you looking for a gift idea to make for your loved ones?? Making an ornament is easy, effortless and you can add your own personal touch! I am not a natural DIY kind of person. But, even I have to admit - these ornaments came out super cute :).

Wait till you see pictures of them!! I am so proud of myself, honestly. First, let's go over what you will need:

  1. Plastic ornaments

  2. Santa hat or candy cane stickers (red)

  3. Huge individual letter stickers (gold or silver)

  4. Green ribbon

  5. Festive paper bags

  6. Red and green tissue paper

  7. Christmas name tags

& that's it! Now, let me explain how to make and pack the ornaments.

Take one clear plastic ornament and wipe it down with a cloth. Next, peel off the letter sticker and place it in the center of the ornament. Be careful with this step (it is tricky because if you mess up it is hard to peel the sticker off to try again).

After the letter is down, place the Santa hat on top of the letter. You want to make it look as if the letter is wearing the hat. If you want to gift ornaments every Christmas and make it a tradition, write the year in the Santa hat or on the ornament!

The last step is to tie the ribbon onto the ornament, so it can be hanged on the Christmas tree - cut a medium size length of ribbon and pull it through the hole. First tie a knot (make sure to leave a circle in the middle) and then make a bow. How cute are they?? I love these. I think I am going to make one every year. It is a great gift for friends and family, too!

You may be wondering, Deirdre, yes these ornaments are cute, but how do I wrap them?? No need for wrapping, put it in a festive Christmas paper bag and call it a day! I found mine at Micheals.

Place your ornaments into individual paper bags - make sure to tag who's who, so you don't get confused.

Don't let tissue paper scare you! It scared me at first, but I learned a method that will neatly place the tissue paper into the bag.

Take one piece of red tissue paper and grab it in the middle and fold up. Make a stem (not too tight) at the bottom and tuck it into the bag. Repeat this step with the green tissue paper - this method avoids crinkling and ripping the tissue paper.

Who doesn't love a homemade Christmas ornament??
