Someone Great | Movie Review #7

I loved this movie not only because Gina Rodriguez was in it, but because I related to this movie so much. The story-telling was so pure and I really felt the heartbreak that her character was going through.

No. I am not going through a heartbreak myself, but i relate to this movie because I have been dating my boyfriend for nine years and there was a lot of compromise and sacrifice to get to where we are today, which is stronger than life itself. Relationships are hard. Never easy.

Anyway, let me get to the point...the review. The movie is about a Jenny Young (Gina Rodriguez) and Nate Davis (Lakeith Stanfield). They fall in love at a young age and essentially grow up together, but as they are growing up they start to drift apart. When Jenny gets this amazing job, not in New York City, that's when there relationship hits there breaking point because Nate is not ready to move out of NYC. He loves the city too much. He didn't want to compromise with her. As the movie progresses, you see Jenny go through the worst heartbreak and hits different stages of that heartbreak. But, going through rock bottom, she has her best friends to pick up the pieces a long the way.

I enjoyed watching this movie so much that I watched it multiple times! Maybe like four or five times?? (What! I can't be the only one that does that...)

*SPOILER ALERT*

In the movie, Jenny wrote a poem about her heartbreak and it's one of my favorite poems of all time.

"do you think i can have one more kiss? i'll find closure on your lips and then i'll go. maybe also one more breakfast, one more lunch, and one more dinner. i'll be full and happy, and we can part. but in between meals, maybe we can lie in bed one more time, one more prolonged moment where time suspends indefinitely as i rest my head on your chest. my hope, is that if we add up the one mores they will equal a lifetime, and i'll never have to get to the part where i let you go. but that's not real, is it? there are no more "one mores." i met you when everything was new and exciting, and the possibilities of the world seemed endless and they still are, for you, for me...but not for us. somewhere between then and now, here and there, I guess we didn't just grow apart, we grew up. when something breaks, if the pieces are large enough, you can fix it. unfortunately sometimes things don't break, they shatter. but when you let the light in, shattered glass will glitter. and in those moments when the pieces of what we were catch the sun, i'll remember just how beautiful it was. just how beautiful it will always be. because it was us. and we were magic. forever."

If you are in the mood to cry or laugh, i recommend watching this movie because you will be laughing and crying at the same damn time. ALSO Gina Rodriquez is a queen, so..there's that.
